Treadway is more than just a Rodeo Company By Kim Watkins
Pam Treadway of the Treadway Rodeo Company says, "I'm passionate about the belief that people want entertainment along with the good bucking stock."A rodeo company is no longer just bringing in the bucking stock. Like the Treadway Rodeo Company, a combination of outstanding production, stock, and cowboys, which will come when everything falls into place, makes an exciting rodeo. Ken and Pam Treadway have become the largest stock contractor east of the Mississippi.
Rodeos can no longer ride on the fascination audiences have with cowboys. Like everything else, people come to expect more. It was centuries ago when rodeo was paired with wild west shows. The International Finals Rodeo 32 was especially moving with this year's five-performance patriotic theme.

Focus - that's what it takes to produce a grand entry for the 21st Century rodeo.

Treadway Rodeo Company has put the grand back into grand entry and the show back into rodeo. As the International Professional Rodeo Association Producer of the Year two years in a row, Ken and Pam have set the stage for rodeo's Wild West style. Ken spends his days and a lot of nights searching for the perfect bucking bull or bronc. Exemplified with Cherokee Maid, the 2001 IPRA Bucking Horse of the Year, Ken lives up to his reputation of a "type A" workaholic. Pam says, "He would get up in the middle of the night to look at a horse or a bull if someone told him it was a good one." Ken and Pam complete the full picture of a rodeo company. Providing the rodeo with superb stock and producing an exciting and moving program for the spectator.

The International Finals Rodeo 32 opened its gates to a symbolic theatrical tribute to the heroes of the United States of America, including military branches, firefighters, and police officers with special tributes to our flag. A huge choreographed undertaking, Pam makes all the costumes, chooses the music, plans lighting and even the fog and smoke. The opening ceremonies come together like a Broadway play. Pam explains, "We couldn't do it all without our crew, the Good Lord, and our good help makes it all happen." She forgot to mention long nights and little sleep.

Pam said she knew she wanted to have a patriotic theme for the IFR 32 opening ceremonies.

"I didn't want anything heavy or dramatic. I want everyone to have that great American feeling -

a celebration of America." She accomplished it - every heart in the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds

arena was moved - people talked about each opening throughout the evening's performances.

Ken's eternal search for the perfect bucking bull or bronc and Pam's passion and creativity make the Treadway Rodeo Company synonymous with performance grand style.

The International Professional

Rodeo Association

The International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA) began in 1957 when two rodeo promoters formed the Interstate Rodeo Association as a rodeo management organization and a sanctioning body. Because the existing national rodeo organization was concerned with expansion west of the Mississippi River, this new group's primary interest was to enhance rodeo's credibility with the news media in the east where fly-by-night rodeos, Wild West shows, and unregulated contests had done much to discredit the sport. In 1957, the Interstate Rodeo Association began counting championship points won at its rodeos and named its first world champions at the end of that year. Included among the rodeos providing championship points that year was the famous Cowtown, N.J., rodeo, the sport's first nationally televised event. In 1964, the Interstate Rodeo Association changed its name to the International Rodeo Association, with headquarters in Pauls Valley, Okla., where the association was located until April 1993. Offices are now located adjacent to the historic Oklahoma City Stockyards. The word "Professional" was officially added to the association's name in 1983 to distinguish it from other organizations and products using the initials "IRA." This Years IFR (International Finals Rodeo) will be held at the Ford Center in downtown Oklahoma City and will pay more the $500,000 in winnings!
